ChatCut has three product forms. They use the same basic idea—an editable video project that an AI agent can help change—but the main application, media path, export path, and place where you talk to the agent are different.
ChatCut web app
The web app is the fastest way to start. Open app.chatcut.io, sign in, and work in the ChatCut editor in a desktop browser.
- Where you edit: the ChatCut browser editor.
- Where you talk to AI: the built-in AI panel.
- Where media lives: imported and generated media appears in My Assets.
- How video exports: supported exports render through ChatCut’s cloud workflow.
- Use it when: you want to start quickly, work with cloud projects, or share a project with other people.
ChatCut Desktop
ChatCut Desktop is the native macOS or Windows editor. To install it, open the web app, select your avatar in the top-right, hover over Desktop App, and select Download beside your platform.
- Where you edit: the native ChatCut app.
- Where you talk to AI: the Desktop AI panel, using ChatCut, Claude Code, or Codex CLI from Agent Selection.
- Where media lives: Desktop can read supported local files and folders from your computer.
- How video exports: supported video exports render locally, including 4K and HDR when the computer supports the selected option.
- Use it when: your source library is already on the computer, you want a local agent workflow, or you need local export.
Desktop still needs the internet for sign-in, synchronization, hosted generation, and other cloud-backed features. It is not a fully offline product.
ChatCut Agent Plugin
The Agent Plugin moves the main conversation into Claude Code Desktop or the Codex desktop app. The host agent connects to ChatCut and opens an editable ChatCut project in its Browser pane.
- Where you edit: the ChatCut editor shown beside the agent conversation.
- Where you talk to AI: Claude Code Desktop or the Codex desktop app.
- How it connects: through the installed ChatCut plugin and its hosted MCP connection.
- Use it when: you want an external desktop agent to lead the workflow while keeping the result editable in ChatCut.
The plugin cannot be installed in Claude’s website, ChatGPT’s website, a remote web conversation, or the ChatCut web editor. Start from avatar → Agent Plugin → Copy, then paste the copied setup prompt into the matching desktop agent app.
