An external desktop agent can control ChatCut through MCP while the main conversation stays in Claude Code Desktop or the Codex desktop app. ChatCut has two MCP paths with different destinations.
| Connection | ChatCut surface controlled | How it starts |
|---|---|---|
| Agent Plugin hosted MCP | A hosted ChatCut project shown in the agent app’s Browser pane | Install the Agent Plugin, authorize ChatCut, then start a new session or task. |
| ChatCut Desktop local MCP | The native project currently open in ChatCut Desktop on the same computer | Install and open ChatCut Desktop; it registers its local connection with supported detected agent apps. |
Control the open Desktop project
- Open the intended project in ChatCut Desktop.
- Open Claude Code Desktop or the Codex desktop app on the same computer.
- Ask the agent to edit the project with ChatCut.
- In ChatCut Desktop, use the agent icon in the top bar to inspect the connected app.
- Select the agent name to return to its conversation, or select Reconnect if the local bridge needs repair.
Both apps must remain on the same computer and ChatCut Desktop must stay open. Installing the hosted Agent Plugin does not create this local bridge. Do not share cookies or access tokens in the agent conversation; complete account authorization in the browser page that ChatCut opens.
